Digitalization of Adult Education Programmes for Socio-Economic Growth; Societal Development, and Sustainability in Nigeria

Abstract

All societal development and sustainability desires of many nations are mainly anchored on the social and economic growth of their citizens; which necessarily depends on the level and utilization of information services, and dissemination. Based on this fact, the paper presents a picture of digitalization of adult education programmes for socio-economic growth, and societal development and sustainability in Nigeria. The burning issues that are x-rayed include: digitalization and integration, adult education, adult education programmes and digitalization, socio-economic growth and societal development; prospects of digitalization of adult education programmes, and the demerits of digitalization in adult education. The paper concludes among other things; that there are outweighing prospects for integrating digital information services into adult education teaching and learning programmes. The researchers suggest among others: that government at all levels should objectively sponsor adult education, by equipping adult education centres and institutions with the essential ICTs, needed for boosting life­-long learning, socio-economic growth, and citizens participation in societal development and sustainability in Nigeria.
