Abstract
The study investigated on the challenges faced by public secondary school principals in the management of the educational reforms and innovations for the achievement of educational goals in Owerri educational zone 1 and 2 in Imo State. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of the study was 156 principals and sample size of 120 was obtained using the Taro-Yarmane formula. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated for the study. Instrument for data collection was a 15 item structure questionnaire titled  “challenges of public secondary school principals in the management of innovations and reforms” (CPSSPMIR) developed and used to elicit information for the study. The instrument was validated by two experts in Measurement and Evaluation of Alvan Ikoku University of Education Owerri. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha reliability method and a reliability index of 0.78 was obtained. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation for the research questions while t-test statistics was employment for the null hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The findings of the study revealed that the principals certainly do not apply their instructional supervisory role for the management of innovations and reforms. ICT was found to be under-utilized therefore government should make funds available for maintenance, equally recruit qualified and trained staff to enable them make use of ICT amongst others.
