Integration of Digital Assessment Techniques in Higher Education for Effective Curriculum Innovation in South Eastern Nigeria

Abstract

The study investigated the Integration of Digital Assessment Techniques in Higher Education for Effective Curriculum Innovation in South Eastern Nigeria. Two research questions and two hypothesis guided the study. Quantitative survey research design was adopted for the study. Stratified random sampling technique was used to draw sample of 700_(100%) students and lecturers (400_(57.1%) students and 300_(42.9%) lecturers) from various institutions across south eastern Nigeria. Two researchers made instrument were used for the study. The instruments were titled; Digital Assessment Techniques Impact on Student Engagement and Learning Outcomes Questionnaire (DATISELOQ) and Perceptions of Lecturers on Effectiveness of Digital Assessment Techniques in Curriculum Innovation Questionnaire (PLEDATCIQ). Instruments was pilot tested and analysed using Cronbach alpha. The statistics yielded a reliability index of 0.86 and 0.78 as obtained for both respectively. Findings of the study reveal that digital assessment techniques have impacts in student engagement and learning outcomes in higher education institutions to a higher extent in South Eastern Nigeria. The study also reveals that the integration of digital assessment techniques can foster effective curriculum innovation in higher education institutions in South Eastern Nigeria. Among all recommendations, the researchers suggested that there should be implementation of comprehensive professional development programs to equip lecturers with the skills needed to effectively use digital assessment tools for effective curriculum innovation by organizing regular workshops, webinars, and training sessions focused on digital assessment techniques
