Digitalization and Emerging Issues in Social Studies: The Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education Experience

Abstract
This paper examined digitalization and emerging issues in social studies: The Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education Owerri Experience.Three research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of the study consisted of all the one hundred and thirty-two (132) respondents for the research study. A twenty-one (21) items questionnaire developed by the researchers titled “questionnaire for digitalization tools in Social studies” (QFDTSS) was used after validation by experts for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was obtained as 0.82 using Cronbach Alpha. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation statistical tools for the research questions while t- test was used to calculate the hypotheses. The study considered any questionnaire item with mean rating from 0 – 2.49 as negative while from 2.5 – 4 as positive. The result revealed that respondents confirmed that using digital tools in Social Studies significantly improves critical thinking, enables effective collaboration, and makes learning more engaging. These benefits led to the recommendation that the management of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, should ensure that benefits of digital tools be sustained in the university by making sure that digital tools are provided and maintained for meaningful and purposeful teaching and learning processes.
